The Van Der Beek family is back to adventuring!
On Saturday, June 14, Kimberly Van Der Beek shared a heartwarming photo via Instagram of her husband James Van De Beek and their six children as they were getting ready to head off for a family vacation. “We ready for you Florida! Excited to go see family! 💕🫶🏼,” Kimberly captioned the post.
Kimberly, 43, and James, 48, share Olivia, 14, Joshua, 13, Annabel, 11, Emilia, 8, Gwendolyn, 6, Jeremiah, 2.
The trip comes months after James offered an update about his cancer treatment journey. He first revealed he was diagnosed with colorectal cancer in an interview with People in November 2024, going on to share his positive mindset despite the health news.
“I feel like I can see the finish line… I’m in a healing phase, which is great. I’m going back to work next month. I’m taking this month really to just kind of relax,” he also told Extra at the time.
James went on to explain that being asked to perform in a costume on The Masked Singer was a blessing in literal disguise.
“Especially with everything I was going through, and I just announced the health issues I was dealing with, so to be able to put on the mask and connect with an audience without that being a part of the equation was actually a really beautiful thing,” he explained. “I appreciated the mask. The costume itself was heavy as could be… but the mask I appreciated.”
In a candid Instagram post also shared in March, James opened up about the past year being the “hardest” of his life, as well as the effect his cancer diagnosis has had on his family.
“This year, I had to look my own mortality in the eye. I came nose to nose with death,” he said in the Instagram video at the time. “All of those definitions that I cared so deeply about were stripped from me. I was away for treatment so I could no longer be a husband who was helpful to my wife. I could no longer be a father who could pick up his kids and put them to bed and be there for them.”
James also revealed in March that the Dawson’s Creek cast had reunited after some time of not speaking. The actor reflected on getting the chance to reconnect with his former costars on the Thursday, March 20, episode of Jana Kramer‘s “Whine Down” podcast and shared, “I’ve gotten in touch with them recently and it’s just been so nice.”
“It’s just been so great to talk to them and catch up with like who they are now this many years out and to have that shared experience from back in the day,” he added. “It’s just so lovely every time I get to catch up with one of them.”
