When Ian Jackson committed to St. John’s in the spring, at the top of his list of reasons for choosing his hometown school was the idea that he would get pushed.

That Rick Pitino would demand the most out of him and teach him aspects of the sport that were missing from his game. He understood that would come with some tough love, something he has experienced plenty of already.

“Nothing for him is good enough, and for me that’s OK,” Jackson said with a laugh on Wednesday after St. John’s held an open scrimmage for the media at the Garden. “I have no problem with looking forward and having a mindset to the next thing, and not just dwelling on success. …

“Coach P is a different guy, in terms of his details, in terms of his approach, in terms of his work. He’s just different. It’s something I needed. I’m growing from it and I love it.”
