Hunting Wives star Malin Akerman heard the chatter surrounding her character’s wigs and is setting the record straight.

Akerman, 47, addressed ongoing “conspiracy theories” about socialite Margo Banks’ hair on the Netflix show while making an appearance on the “Not Skinny But Not Fat” podcast on Tuesday, August 19.

When asked why she was wearing a wig instead of sporting her natural hair, Akerman explained, “I have a thyroid issue, and my hair quality just wasn’t great at the time. And so I was thinking of dying it and putting extensions in and stuff, it was just gonna start falling out.” She added that the styling team decided a wig would give Margo “really beautiful hair.”

For her character’s first wig, Akerman was able to give it a try before filming but wasn’t completely happy with how it turned out. “It fits great and whatever, but it’s not quite the color or the shape that we talked about,” she said.

“It looked a little bit like I’d walked out of Dallas or Dynasty,” the actress quipped. “I’m not gonna lie, it was not great.”

After producer Rebecca Cutter saw the look and style, she knew it had to be changed. They later found “a box of wigs” and started digging through it.

“She’s like, ‘What about this one?’” Akerman recalled, noting they didn’t fit her perfectly, but the overall hair color was better.

While they waited for that particular piece to be fit to size, they used the other look as a temporary fix while filming.

Fans were vocal about her mane on the show, with many taking to X to sound off. “If the Hunting Wives gets season 2, please get malin akerman a better wig good lord,” one posted on the social media platform, while another chimed in, “Was no one on the set of The Hunting Wives concerned about Malin Akerman’s wig?”

When the perfect wig finally came in, the star confirmed the color was slightly lighter than on the one she had previously worn, so they added a scene of Margo getting her hair lightened while her husband was running for governor.

If the show does get the green light for a second season, Akerman said the team would try coloring the actress’ hair instead of using another wig.
