Hubert Davis is canceling public appearances after a disastrous end to North Carolina’s season.

After his team blew a 19-point lead to VCU in the first round of March Madness, Davis postponed his radio show “Hubert Davis Live!” amid growing uncertainty of his future in Chapel Hill.

Davis’ future is up in the air, according to multiple reports, after the shocking 82-78 defeat, where the Tar Heels led for most of the game against the VCU Rams, but between horrific free-throw shooting and struggles inbounding the ball, North Carolina wound up losing in overtime.

After the game, Davis looked baffled and struggled to answer questions when talking to reporters.

Davis had early success in Chapel Hill, leading the team to a national championship game appearance in 2022 and an ACC championship in 2024, but the past two seasons ended in first-round NCAA Tournament losses.

Those March Madness results are surely unacceptable for North Carolina, which has a storied history, including six national championships, the third most of all time.

Davis took over for legendary coach Roy Williams in 2021. He previously starred for the Tar Heels from 1988-1992, where he played under Dean Smith.

As it is with any college coach, contracts are the main thing stopping teams from changing coaches, though Davis is far from the most expensive coach to move off his contract.

Davis is owed $5.3 million for the remainder of his contract, a relatively small amount all things considered, as we’ve seen some contracts cost colleges over eight figures.

If Davis is sent packing, the Tar Heels could look to go big game hunting with Alabama coach Nate Oats, Florida coach Todd Golden or perhaps even attempt to lure Jay Wright out of retirement.
