Coaching matters.

And not just for the big decisions: going for it on fourth down, saving that last timeout, resisting the urge to attempt the two-point conversion too early, having the players “ready to play,’’ which is the convenient critique of a head coach when his team gets off to a slow start on game day.

Coaching matters, up and down the chain of command. For this Giants team, coaching matters, even more so.

This is the youngest starting lineup in the NFL, and it does not take too comprehensive of an investigation to reveal the roster’s talent and experience level is not where it needs to be to surpass the top contenders. This Giants assemblage needs to squeeze every bit of smarts and ability out of its entire operation in order to win games. These Giants need to show up and perform as the epitome of a well-coached team.
