How does Kate Middleton, the Princess of Wales, really feel about Prince William’s beard?

“She’s a fan,” according to William’s former communications secretary, Jason Knauf, who recently discussed the royal’s facial hair during a special episode of 60 Minutes Australia.

“I love it. I think it’s great,” Knauf continued. “But I’ve talked to him about it or tried to talk to him about it. He’s like, ‘It’s here. I have a beard. No further conversation.’”

Pressed about Middleton, 43, and her so-called fandom, Knauf said: “If she didn’t like it, it wouldn’t be there. I could tell you that!”

The Princess of Wales surprised and delighted Irish Guardsmen and their families with a rare and candid comment about Prince William, 42, and the royal’s said scruff during a St. Patrick’s Day celebration at Wellington Barracks in London on Monday, March 17.

While enjoying a pint of Guinness, Middleton (outfitted in a bottle-green Alexander McQueen coat and shamrock brooch) chatted with the commanders, addressing the future King’s beard.

“These trends come and go,” she shared. “I was saying to my husband, I’m not sure how long he’s going to keep his for.”

William has embraced a beard at various points over the years, most notably during his time in the armed forces. But it wasn’t until November 2024 that he started to rock more facial hair.

After all, the Prince and Princess of Wales have been spending more time in the country lately, which is seemingly all the more excuse for the monarch to channel his inner mountain man.

“We are in Windsor at the moment,” Middleton said, referencing their royal retreat, Adelaide Cottage, near Windsor Castle. “We were in London but moved there for more green space. It’s close enough to London, not too far away.”

Per reporter Victoria Murphy in 2022: “The move, which a Palace source said has been driven by their desire to have as normal a family life as possible, allows William and Kate the opportunity to offer their children a more rural upbringing away from central London and the hustle and bustle of Kensington Palace, which is a popular tourist attraction.”
