PORTRUSH, Northern Ireland — Here’s a toast to the graybeards.

Lift a pint of Guinness or three to the likes of Lee Westwood, Phil Mickelson and Sergio Garcia, all of whom are well past their respective primes and yet all broke par in Thursday’s first round of the British Open at Portrush.

Westwood, who’s 52 years old and is No. 4,689 in the world rankings, had his round to 4-under par through 13 holes and finished with a 2-under 69.

Mickelson, 55, ranked No. 1,252 in the world and a former Open champion, was as low as 3-under in his opening round and finished with a 1-under 70.
