He believes Jalen Brunson can save tired, poor, huddled Knicks fans yearning to win.
Upper West Side native Jacob Nacht created a petition to honor the star Knicks point guard by temporarily changing the Statue of Liberty on Change.org — and it’s already racked up 230 signatures, enough to be passed along to Gov. Hochul.
“Ideally, we create a giant mask of Jalen Brunson’s face for Lady Liberty to wear for one week,” Nacht told The Post ahead of Saturday’s Game 3 of the Eastern Conference semifinals at MSG.
“Hochul was notified, but no word yet,” he said. “Once you hit 100 signatures, they [Change.org] start promoting it a bit more, and automatically sent it to the governor and some other people who would be involved in the process of actually getting it done.
“So it’s actually something that exists now. It’s more than just kind of an idea.”
Nacht, 24, who grew up in Smithtown, LI, and graduated from NYU, has been a Knicks fanatic for life.
“It’s been a tough 24 years, pretty disappointing for most of my life, but once Jalen Brunson joined the team, the entire vibe switched,” he said.
“He’s really the one who changed things for us. Even if they don’t end up winning the championship, he gave us actual hope to win. So I thought it would just be cool to do something to honor him and what better than to literally put his face on the iconic statue of New York, the Statue of Liberty.”
The J.P. Morgan analyst launched the petition on May 2 after Game 6 of Round 1 of the Eastern Conference playoffs, and it quickly gained momentum.
“At first, I told my friends, and they’re all huge Knicks fans and they signed it immediately. And then friends started sending it to some friends,” he said.
One fan bounced around the idea that the city also pay homage to a high-flying Brunson teammate.
“Let’s make a petition to change the Manhattan, Brooklyn, and Williamsburg bridges to the Mikal Bridges while we’re at it,” they wrote.
