We don’t need perpetually positive Yankees manager Aaron Boone to put his usual happy spin on things anymore. These Yankees truly look legit now.

Perhaps it’s unfair to expect the Yankees to carry New York sports at a time the Jets and Giants are winless, and the Mets seem like they are lately, too. But this Yankees team — an MLB-best 26-12 since Aug. 11 — carries the potential as it heads toward October to knock it out of the park. Which they do more regularly than any other team (more on that later).

“Just looking at the names on this team and the talent around this clubhouse, how can you not believe in this team?” Jazz Chisholm Jr. said before a game with the White Sox on Tuesday night at The Stadium, a game that brought the first opportunity to clinch a playoff spot.

A win by the Yankees, and they would be in the postseason for the eighth time in nine years. And they may be a tough out.
