Duck Dynasty stars Mary Kate and John Luke Robertson are expecting — and even they admit the news caught them by surprise.
“Absolutely thrilled to tell y’all we are welcoming TWINS to our family early next year!!! The most wonderful, crazy surprise blessing of our lives ha! Two new little Robertson girls!🩷🩷,” Mary Kay wrote via Instagram on Friday, October 3, announcing her pregnancy.
The pair are already mom and dad to three children: John, 6, Ella, 4, and Wells, 2.
In an interview with This Redeemed Life in February 2017, Mary Kate shared that she and John Luke, 29, met when they were both attending a Christian summer camp in Louisiana.
“My girl’s cabin and his guy’s cabin got paired up for the week and one of our first conversations was when our team chose the two of us to represent them in the wall-sit competition,” she explained to the outlet at the time. “We got to talk during that competition to get our minds off the pain. I specifically remember asking about his siblings, which I would never have imagined would be my future brothers and sister-in-laws!”
The duo met again after Mary Kate and her sister transferred to the same high school John Luke attended.
“At the time, he was traveling a lot because of their family’s television show, but whenever he came back, he always had lots of fun stories to share with me,” she said. “For the next year and a half, we remained really good friends, as our lives crossed a lot being in a small school, having mutual friends, and being on the same tennis team.”
They officially began dating in March 2014 and got engaged seven months later.
Mary Kate and John Luke celebrated daughter Ella’s birth via Instagram in April 2021. “Welcome to the world baby Ella!” John Luke wrote via the platform. “You are sooo cute!! Good to have a child that looks like me.”
They previously announced Mary Kate’s pregnancy in November 2020.
The couple welcomed their oldest son, Shep, in October 2019. “Hi baby John Shepherd!!” Mary Kate captioned a photo shared via Instagram of their son. “He decided to surprise us 10 days early on October 14, 2019, and we are in loveeeee.”
John Luke announced news of Shep’s impending arrival in May 2019.
“Yep, that’s a baby,” the former reality star captioned a photo shared via Instagram that showed him holding out a sonogram picture while Mary Kate cradled her baby bump.
Mary Kate shared the same photo on Instagram, writing in the caption, “Just wanted to say thank you to everyone who has congratulated us and left the sweetest comments about our baby we’re expecting! We have felt so loved and it’s been really special seeing everyone excited about this little dude! We are over the moon excited to meet him in October and I am just so grateful for the Lord entrusting us with this incredible gift. Excited to meet our sweet baby boy in October!!!”
Fans first met John Luke on the hit A&E series Duck Dynasty, which featured brothers Phil and Si Robertson as well as Phil’s sons Jase, Willie and Jep. John Luke is the son of Willie.
The original series aired on the network from 2012 to 2017 and followed the family’s adventures as they navigated running their duck hunter supplier business Duck Commander. A&E announced a reboot of the series in 2025.
