They’re trying to expand people’s digital (Big)foot print.

The Unicode Consortium is ringing in the New Year with a proposed treasure trove of new emojis for 2025, including a facsimile of Bigfoot amid a slew of supposed Sasquatch sightings.

There will reportedly be a total of 164 new digital hieroglyphics, released as part of the Emoji 17.0 and Unicode 17.0 beta, with nine brand-new characters.

There’s also a bug-eyed distorted face symbol, a ballet dancer performing an arabesque, an apple core, an orca, a trombone, a landslide, a treasure chest, and a “fight cloud” emoji that’s popular in comic books and cartoons.

While the new releases still need to be greenlit, they’ve nonetheless made a splash among X users, who named their favorites online.

“Sasquatch is fire,” exclaimed one commenter, while another wrote, “Oh, the distorted face is gonna be my most used emoji fo sho [sic].”

The remaining emojis under consideration for Emoji 17.0 entail various skin tone sequences for both proposed and existing emojis, Unicode announced.

Emoji-fans will need to be patient as the new batch won’t come out until September 2025 and could see some revisions before its debut.

“We’ll have to wait a while before they are officially recommended,” Unicode warns on its site. “Between now and September 2025 there will be several further considerations made by Unicode regarding these draft emoji candidates.”

“This means that some of these proposed emojis may not be brought forward for final approval,” they added,

Once rolled out, the cartoon compendium will be available for use and tinkering by Google, Apple, Microsoft, Meta and myriad other platforms.
