Diane Keaton’s Father of the Bride costar is remembering the legendary actress after her death.

“This breaks my heart. Getting to work with Diane Keaton will always be one of the highlights of my life,” Kimberly Williams-Paisley wrote in the comments section of People‘s Instagram post announcing the actress’ death, alongside a red heart emoji.

News broke on Sunday, October 11, that Keaton died at age 79. A spokesperson for her family told People that she was in California and no additional information about her death would be available at this time. Her family also “asked for privacy” as they mourn her loss. Us Weekly reached out for comment.

Throughout her more than 50 year career in Hollywood, Keaton was known for various iconic roles, including Nina Banks in The Father of the Bride franchise, the mother of bride-to-be Annie Banks (Williams-Paisley).

The film hit theaters in 1991, centering around the upcoming nuptials and George Banks (Steve Martin) trying — and often failing — to process letting go of his daughter. The ensemble cast also featured over-the-top wedding planner Frank Eggelhoffer (Martin Short), his assistant Howard Weinstein (BD Wong), groom Bryan MacKenzie (George Newbern) and Annie’s little brother Matty Banks (Kieran Culkin).

After the initial movie’s success, Father of the Bride Part II dropped in 1995. The cast went on to reunite via Zoom in 2020 to benefit the World Central Kitchen, an organization that provides meals for kids and families impacted by natural disasters, war and other catastrophes, during the coronavirus pandemic. While reunited, fans received an update on the Banks family — Matty is now a comedy writer, George is retired and the family never left their home.

Two years later, Keaton revealed to Us that she wouldn’t rule out the idea of reprising her role as Nina. “No one’s come forward with it. But if it were to happen, sure,” Keaton shared in 2022. “Of course I would.”

“Steven, Marty, I mean, they’ve got their television show [Only Murders in the Building] now. I mean, they’re giants and they’re just incredibly great actors and funny and smart and all that,” Keaton gushed to Us at the time about her former costars. “We all know that, and it works. How they’re doing it on TV is pretty remarkable.”

While a reboot starring Andy Garcia and Gloria Estefan dropped on HBO Max in 2022, Keaton confirmed at the time that she hadn’t seen it. “I have not watched the remake of Father of the Bride,” Keaton shared.

While recalling her remarkable career, Keaton went on to add that she would be open to various future projects.

“I would say more of everything that comes my way. I don’t know what’s going to come my way. Maybe nothing’s going to come my way. I’ve been so lucky and so I just don’t want to push off anything without knowing if I could have a chance to know, would I be doing it or what,” she explained. “I wouldn’t knock out anything unless I read something that I really felt that I wouldn’t be right for, something like that. That just is not good for me.”
