David Ortiz loves to rag on the Yankees, and the former Red Sox slugger took full advantage of their recent inability to convince Juan Soto to remain in pinstripes — poking fun at his former rivals.
Soto posted a video to his Instagram on Monday of highlights surrounding his introductory press conference after signing with the Mets for a record 15-year, $765 million deal.
Underneath the post, Ortiz mocked John Sterling’s beloved call after every Yankees win by changing one word.
“The……. Yankees lose,” he wrote in the comments along with two crying laughing emojis.
The moment was not the first time Ortiz mimicked the Sterling call.
Ortiz also mocked the call while participating in a studio program during the MLB playoffs in 2017.
He has also been seen on broadcasts happily celebrating after Yankees losses, including during the team’s run to the World Series.
One video showed Ortiz singing “They not like us” to music after a Yankee loss to the Dodgers in The Bronx.
Soto’s video that he posted featured him on his way to Citi Field for the first time and getting to see his new home.
It also shows him walking into the Mets’ clubhouse for the first time and seeing his No. 22 jersey hanging from a locker.
Soto agreed to a deal with the Mets earlier this month, and the new superstar in Queens told reporters during his introduction that he felt the Mets had the best chance to win.
“They did everything in their power to help me out, to bring me back,” Soto said about the Yankees’ efforts to forge a reunion. “I had four other teams trying to do the same thing and in trying to make me feel comfortable. At the end, we looked at everything, we looked at the chances and looked at what everybody wants to do for the next 15 years and I think we have the best chance to do it over here.”
