You won’t want to take a siesta for this one.
On Sunday, Nov. 16, Jayden Daniels’ Washington Commanders will take on Tua Tagovailoa’s Miami Dolphins at Madrid’s Estadio Santiago Bernabeu in a week 11 matchup that also happens to be the first-ever NFL game in Spain.
The last time the two clubs met was in a 2024 preseason contest where backup quarterbacks subbed in for the starters; Mike White and Miami ended up winning 13-6.
Once the regular season began though, the teams had wildly divergent years.
Washington shocked the world, went 12-5 and advanced all the way to the NFC Championship where they lost to the eventual Super Bowl champion Philadelphia Eagles. This will be their first international game for the club since their two-overtime thriller against the Bengals in 2016. They ended up tying that game 27-27.
As for the Dolphins, they started the year slow going 2-6 through their first eight games. Tagovailoa missed a number of games due to a concussion and it seemed as if the season was lost. Still, somehow Mike McDaniel’s club clawed their way back and won six of their last nine to finish a respectable 8-9. Most recently, Miami played overseas in November 2023. They lost 21-14 to the Chiefs.
