The Blue Jays need to lock up superstar Vladimir Guerrero Jr. And someone needs to explain why they spent $58 million on Alejandro Kirk while Guerrero waits. 

Toronto was offering about $500M deferred ($400M-$450M value) as The Post reported, and he seeks $500M non-deferred, as Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic reported. That leaves a gap of $50M-$100M. 

If the Jays don’t extend Guerrero, folks might ask this legit question: What was the rush on Kirk?
