Blue Bloods got viewers invested in the Reagan family — but how are the characters related to each other?

The CBS series, which premiered in 2010, followed the lives of the Reagan family, many of whom worked for the NYPD under the leadership of NYC police commissioner Frank Reagan (Tom Selleck). Frank’s father, Henry Reagan (Len Cariou), was also central to the show alongside Frank’s children: daughter Erin Reagan (Bridget Moynahan) and sons Danny (Donnie Wahlberg) and Jamie Reagan (Will Estes).

Blue Bloods continued to make headlines in 2023 when it was renewed, but the cast and producers agreed to take a 25 percent pay cut. After its official cancellation, Selleck questioned the decision to end the police procedural.

“I’m kind of frustrated,” he told TV Insider in October 2024. “During those last eight shows, I haven’t wanted to talk about an ending for Blue Bloods but about it still being wildly successful.”

Selleck argued that Blue Bloods should have remained on the air, saying, “I’m not going to turn into a bitter old guy saying, ‘Get off my lawn.’ I don’t believe in holding grudges, but if you were to say to the television network, ‘Here’s a show you can program in the worst time slot you got, and it is going to guarantee you winning Friday night for the next 15 years,’ it would be almost impossible to believe.”

CBS later announced that a spinoff titled Boston Blue was ordered straight to series and would expand the universe with Wahlberg’s character. The actor hasn’t ruled out appearances from his former onscreen family members.

“The viewers are saying, ‘How do we keep going with a Blue Bloods spinoff without the whole family?’ And I share that. How do we do that, right?” he told Fox News Digital in June 2025. “Now, it’s just Danny going to this new world, but I can’t say a lot about it — but I could say, if he’s a Reagan, it will never be just Danny. There’ll always be a Reagan a phone call away.”

Wahlberg continued: “And the traditions that the Reagans have, Danny wouldn’t abandon those traditions.”

Frank Reagan

Selleck’s character was named New York City Police Commissioner after following in his father’s footsteps. Frank served as the patriarch of a family of police officers, with his three kids all being involved in the city’s criminal justice system.

Frank welcomed Danny, Erin and Jamie with late wife Mary Margaret Reagan before her death from cancer. They also shared son Joe, who was killed.

Henry Reagan

Cariou played the former New York City Police Commissioner, who is Frank’s father on Blue Bloods. Henry shared his kids — including Frank and his younger brother, who died of leukemia at 18 months — with wife Betty before her death.

Jamie Reagan

Frank’s youngest son became a police sergeant during his time on Blue Bloods. After previously being engaged to Sydney Davenport, Jamie found love with Eddie, who would go on to become his wife and the mother of his child.

Erin Reagan

Throughout Blue Bloods, Moynahan played Frank’s only daughter and the New York County Assistant District Attorney. Erin was married to Jack Boyle (Peter Hermann), with whom she shared daughter Nicky. She ended the series secretly remarried to Jack.

Danny Reagan

Wahlberg portrayed Frank’s eldest son and a fellow police detective. He was previously married to Linda Rose Reagan (Amy Carlson), with whom he shared sons Jack and Sean, before her death.

Eddie Janko-Reagan

Vanessa Ray was introduced as Eddie in 2013. After starting out as Jamie’s partner, Eddie went on to become his wife. The series finale of Blue Bloods revealed that the fan-favorite couple were expecting their first baby.
