The Edmonton Oilers have looked the part of a Stanley Cup contender for the first three weeks of the playoffs, but none of that will matter if they can’t get a save.
Calvin Pickard seemed to have solved that issue when he entered the series for Stuart Skinner midway through Round 1, but Pickard is now injured, and Skinner didn’t have his best stuff in a 4-3 loss in Game 4.
Skinner and the Oilers are a -120 favorite on Monday night.

It may sound like it’s oversimplifying things, but this game will come down to whether or not Skinner can find his form. The 26-year-old doesn’t need to be the difference-maker; he just needs to make the saves he’s supposed to make, which would allow Edmonton’s stars to do their job.

Unfortunately, that has been a hurdle too far for Skinner to leap for much of this campaign. Not only has he struggled to an .817 save percentage in three starts this postseason, but his numbers during the regular season were pedestrian, too.
