Ben Johnson may be having regrets right about now.

A woeful Bears defense already yielding 39.5 points per game will now be without star cornerback Jaylon Johnson for an indefinite period with a groin injury, according to ESPN.

Johnson exited Sunday’s 52-21 loss to the Lions in the second quarter after re-aggravating the injury, and it’s reportedly not known yet whether surgery is an option.

The Bears (0-2) entered the season with high hopes with a new wunderkind coach in Ben Johnson and things started fast, but it’s all gone downhill to start the season.

Chicago held an 11-point lead before collapsing in a 27-24 home loss to the Vikings on “Monday Night Football” in Week 1, with Johnson missing the game due to the injury.

He suffered a groin injury in the offseason, saying he tore the abductor off his pelvic bone, which sidelined him all of training camp and preseason action.

Johnson then returned Sunday and re-aggravated the injury after diving to break up a pass intended for Amon Ra St-Brown on a third-and-10 play with Detroit nursing a 14-7 lead.

Chicago allowed 38 more points without Johnson on the field.

The Bears are now in a delicate spot with Johnson sidelined, especially since the defense has shown little ability to get a stop over the last five quarters.

Another starting cornerback, Kyler Gordon, has missed the first two games with a hamstring injury and it is unclear when he is returning to the lineup.

Chicago has allowed 73 points spanning its last 75 minutes of action.

While the NFC North is loaded, many expected the Bears would be in the mix for a playoff berth this year with Johnson taking the reins and Caleb Williams entering his second season.

This injury has the possibility to derail the season.

Chicago welcomes a Cowboys team that just scored 40 points on Sunday, visits the Raiders in Week 4 and then heads to Washington for a “Monday Night Football” clash in Week 5.

Unless the defense under defensive coordinator Dennis Allen rebounds without one of its premier players, it may not matter what the offense does each week.

The Bears are 1.5-point home favorites in Week 3.
