Argentine President Javier Milei is expected to attend President-elect Donald Trump’s inauguration, according to a Buenos Aires-based outlet, joining a growing list of foreign leaders who have been invited to the Jan. 20 ceremony.
Milei — who has grown close to Trump and the American conservative movement since being elected to lead his nation — will fly to Washington, DC, for Inauguration Day after the incoming president personally called him to extend the invite, La Nacion reported.
Foreign leaders have never jetted into the nation’s capital for the hallowed affair, typically sending their diplomatic counterparts instead, but Trump, 78, has broken with custom to potentially bring in an entourage of dignitaries.
“The world leaders are calling me, and some really would like to meet,” the president-elect maintained during a press conference at Mar-a-Lago on Monday.
“I think it’s rude not to, I mean, it’s hard to say I’m not going to see you, and I’ve spoken to way over 100 where they called to congratulate on the — not only the election, but the size of the election, the extent of the victory,” he went on.
“I spoke to over 100 countries,” he claimed. “And I’m trying with the best I can to get back to everybody. But there are a lot of countries, and every one of them, literally everyone called, and it was very nice. So, yeah, I’d see some if some felt it was an emergency.”
Trump also said he would invite Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky to the inauguration if he wanted to come.
Chinese President Xi Jinping was also offered a seat but won’t attend as the soon-to-be 47th president takes the oath of office next month, a source familiar with the RSVP previously told The Post.
“I would say that if he’d like to come, I’d love to have him, but there’s been nothing much discussed,” Trump deflected during his Palm Beach, Fla., presser. “I have had discussions with him, letters, et cetera, et cetera, at a very high level. You know, we had a very good relationship until COVID[-19].”
“COVID didn’t end the relationship, but it was a bridge too far for me,” he added.
China’s ambassador to the US, Xie Feng, and his wife are expected to attend as is traditional.
Milei has cozied up to the president-elect and his MAGA faithfuls at Mar-a-Lago during an America First Policy Institute gala last month, where he mugged for a photo with tech billionaire Elon Musk, another close confidant of Trump, Buenos Aires Foreign Minister Gerardo Werthein and Secretary General of the Argentine Presidency Karina Milei, Javier’s sister.
The libertarian-minded leader, who cut his nation’s bureaucracy upon taking office, was also a featured speaker at a Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC) earlier this year.
Other conservative leaders whose stars are rising, including Italian Prime Minister Georgia Meloni, whom Trump has praised as “a real live wire,” and El Salvador’s President Nayib Bukele, have also been asked to come to the swearing in ceremony, according to CNN.
Trump’s transition team and the Argentinian embassy did not respond to inquiries from The Post.
