WNBA star Angel Reese was in the building for Thursday night’s March Madness Sweet 16 matchup between No. 4 Maryland and No. 1 Florida to support her brother Julian, a 6-foot-9 forward for the Terrapins.
Angel was also alongside her mother, Angel Webb Reese, on the sidelines, with the Maryland native sporting a shirt that read: “I’m from Baltimore.”
Julian, who is a senior, had 12 points and eight rebounds for Maryland in an 87-71 loss to the Gators, which officially knocked the Terrapins out of the NCAA Tournament.
The 21-year-old received All-Big Ten honorable mentions in two consecutive seasons during his sophomore and junior years.
Similar to Angel, Julian has also established himself as an elite rebounding presence for the Terps, grabbing the 1,000th board of his career in Sunday’s second-round win over Colorado State.
“I think being a big guy, especially going through AAU now and high school basketball,” Maryland head coach Kevin Willard told The Athletic, “the really only way you get to basketball is if you set a pick and roll or get a rebound.”
Julian started nearly every game for the Terps this season, averaging 13.3 points and 9.1 rebounds.
“He’s always had a good feel for where the ball’s going to go. I think that would be the sexy answer,” Willard said. “He has a really good feel for where shots are going to miss. He just doesn’t run to the same spot every time.
“He kind of understands who is shooting it, where it’s going. Like, Rodney (Rice) shoots it a little flatter than Ja’Kobi [Gillespie]. Kobi’s misses are a little bit bouncier. Rod’s are a little bit harder. Julian understands that.”
Angel attended Maryland with Julian during her first two years of college, being a member of the Terps’ women’s basketball team and receiving third-team All American honors for her sophomore season.
Following her two years at Maryland, Angel transferred to LSU and helped lead the Tigers to their first-ever national title in 2023 before being drafted to the Chicago Sky in the WNBA draft.
