Amy Robach and T.J. Holmes discussed the possibility of marriage before officially announcing their 2025 engagement.

The former Good Morning America hosts made headlines in November 2022 when they were spotted getting cozy on multiple occasions while they were married to other people. (Robach was with ex-husband Andrew Shue while Holmes was with ex-wife Marilee Fiebig.)

Nearly one year after they were kicked off GMA3 as a result of the scandal, Robach and Holmes debuted their “Amy & T.J.” podcast, where they opened up about their relationship and the possibility of getting married.

“It’s under consideration,” Robach said in December 2023. “Here’s what I would say. We did not enter this relationship for fun or for, ‘Let’s see what happens.’ We entered this relationship because we intended on spending our lives together. So whether or not we have some sort of legal, you know, I don’t know, button on it.”

In October 2025, Robach and Holmes announced their engagement.

“We are sharing with all of you that we are engaged and we’ve been engaged for just about a month now,” Robach said on the “Amy & TJ” podcast.

“We wanted to let you all know before anybody else was able to, Holmes added. ”We’ve learned that lesson, I guess, in the past about our relationship.”

December 2023

During an episode of their “Amy & T.J.” podcast, Robach shared that marriage was “under consideration” and that they “did not enter this relationship for fun.”

“We entered this relationship because we intended on spending our lives together,” she explained, adding that they aren’t “racing” or “rushing” towards the wedding aisle. “But there is something, I get it, it’s this thing that I can’t even explain why there’s this desire, but I want to spend the rest of my life with you, I can say that. It’s on the table.”

Holmes agreed with Robach, joking that he wants to marry her “in part, because you’re 50 and I’m 46. And I’m very sick of introducing a 50-year-old woman as my girlfriend.”

“That just sounds stupid,” he said before Robach replied, “Thank you for noting the age difference.”

April 2024

On an episode of the “Amy & T.J.” podcast, Robach shared that they’re “still deciding” about a potential walk down the aisle.

“I think we’re still deciding about, just, what the level of commitment is, whether it’s legal or not, but that’s still up for debate,” she explained. “But mentally, emotionally, we’ve absolutely agreed to commit to each other. … We haven’t figured the marriage thing out yet.”

Holmes seemed confused by his then-girlfriend’s comment, asking, “What does that mean, ‘We haven’t figured it out?’ You mean you haven’t decided?”

Robach said “yes,” explaining that she wants to be with Holmes for the “rest of [her] life” and would eventually like to live with him “when the time comes.”

“It doesn’t have to be today, tomorrow or next year, but I would eventually want to live with you,” she said. “I want a life partner. I want someone who is with me. Yeah, I like spending the night with you and waking up with you.”

Robach went on to say that marriage can be a false “level of security” and that “it’s a lot harder to break up when you’re married.”

“And so when you go through the tough times or something really bad happens or something really hard happens, it’s so much easier to walk away if there’s nothing that you have to settle legally,” she shared. “I know that’s not the reason why I want to stay with somebody, but there is this notion, there’s this sense of security, ‘Well, it’s an extra hard thing so maybe we’ll both stick it out.’”

Holmes interjected, adding, “Isn’t that the exact opposite thing that you want to happen? ‘I’m only with you because it’s hard to get away from you.’”

Robach explained that that isn’t the way she wants to “have a relationship” with Holmes.

“I still default to that in my head. I’m just admitting it,” she revealed. “I’m not saying it makes any sense but I’m just admitting that there’s something about it where I can say, ‘That’s husband and I’m his wife.’ It feels more official and it feels more real, even though that’s not necessarily the case because we’ve lived enough life to know that’s not.”

Holmes agreed, noting that it’s “almost a stronger commitment to not get married because you can walk out tomorrow.”

December 2024

Robach revealed on an episode of their “Amy & T.J.” podcast that she wants to have their wedding in the fall. Holmes added that he could see them as husband and wife “sooner rather than later.”

“I say that based on my exclusive conversations with the bride,” he said. “I say that because we are not trying to figure things out. We are not trying to see if we want to be together. We’re not trying to do a trial run to see if this thing can work. That’s not where we are.”

Holmes shared that a “decision has been made” about him and Robach being together forever.

“When we are getting married, that’s going to be a byproduct of what’s happening. And it’s coming,” he explained.

Robach shared that they had “talked about marriage,” except they hadn’t discussed a wedding.

“And there is a difference between the two,” she clarified.
