Pajamas? Forget about ’em.

Experts say that sleeping au naturel is a free and easy way to boost your overall health and sleep quality.

In addition to reducing stress, sleeping naked can offer a variety of benefits, they tell The Post — including for women’s vaginal health and men’s testicular well-being.

Deeper sleep

According to double board-certified OB/GYN Kecia Gaither, improved sleeping is among the prime benefits of sleeping naked.

“Sleeping sans clothes can help regulate body temperature, potentially improving sleep quality since the body can cool down more effectively,” she said.

Research has established the relationship between temperature and sleep regulation.

Dr. Alex Dimitriu, a psychiatrist and sleep doctor based in California, previously told The Post that a cold room — between 60 and 67 degrees — is best for getting to and staying asleep. When your body temperature drops, it signals it’s time to slow down.

In-kind, and in the nude, sleeping naked can make it easier for the body to cool off naturally during the night, thus promoting deeper sleep,” Dimitriu said.

“When our bodies can cool off at night, we enter deeper stages of sleep (slow wave sleep) — which is why sleeping in a cooler environment is important.”

Metabolism boost

According to Gaither, this drop in temperature can also rev your metabolism.

“Sleeping naked may contribute to better hormonal regulation, including the production of sleep-related hormones like melatonin,” she said.

In a 2014 study in the journal Diabetes, researchers found that when people slept in a chilly room, they produced double the volume of brown fat — a healthy fat stored in your neck that burns calories to generate body heat — compared to when they slept in a warmer room. Keeping your body temperature lower by sleeping nude could produce the same effect.

Lets your skin breathe

Better skin is another benefit of stripping down for slumber time.

“Skin can benefit from better air circulation, reducing the risk of skin irritation and allowing for better moisture retention,” said Gaither.

Upsides down there

This airflow can also help maintain vaginal health by reducing irritation and promoting natural moisture balance.

“Sleeping without underwear can minimize moisture buildup and heat, creating a less favorable environment for yeast and bacterial vaginal infections,” she added. “Not wearing tight clothing can reduce chafing and irritation, leading to a more comfortable sleep experience.”

Dudes, too, can benefit from free balling while falling asleep.

The scrotum needs to be just the right temperature to optimize sperm production: 95 to 96 degrees, slightly cooler than the rest of the body. When the testicles are too warm, sperm quality suffers. Even tight underwear can be enough to raise the sack’s temperature above the optimum level.

“Sleeping naked may be good for sperm production in men by allowing the testes to cool,” explained Dimitriu.

Less stress

“Feeling free and unrestricted can reduce stress levels, leading to a more relaxed state conducive to better health and there’s no need to deal with laundry as frequently, which can save time and energy,” Gaither said.

Body positivity

Turning in for the night in the buff can lead to improved body awareness and contribute to feelings of body positivity, according to Gaither.

“Sleeping naked encourages a more positive body image and can increase awareness of bodily changes,  potentially leading to earlier detection of health issues.”

Further, sleeping naked “can help promote a positive body image and self-acceptance.” Indeed, a recent poll found that those who sleep sans jammies report higher rates of overall confidence.

Increased intimacy

If you share your bed with a partner, sleeping buck naked can strengthen your bond.

According to a 2024 poll of nude vs. clothed sleepers, respondents who sleep in the nude were happier with their current sex life (62% vs. 48%) — and for those with a partner, they said it positively impacted their intimacy (72%).

“Romantically speaking, we are mammals. We like to cuddle (think sleeping hamsters). Cuddling produces oxytocin, the ‘bonding hormone,’ which brings us closer together. Sleeping naked with your partner may be an effective way to get closer, physically and emotionally,” said Dimitriu.
