Netflix isn’t losing any momentum as it heads into the final weekend of August.

Ahead of next week’s debut of Wednesday season 2, part 2, Netflix already has a new hit series from the United Kingdom called Hostage.

That thriller is No. 1 on our list of the three underrated Netflix shows you need to watch this weekend.

Watch With Us‘ other picks include the latest half-season from Starz’s time-traveling historical fantasy, as well as a Spanish comedy that recently arrived on Netflix for the first time.

‘Hostage’ (2025)

Hostage | Official Trailer | Netflix

Hostage is a newly arrived British political thriller, and the title character, Dr. Alex Anderson (Ashley Thomas), wouldn’t have been such a high-value target if his wife weren’t Abigail Dalton (Suranne Jones), the Prime Minister of the United Kingdom. The hostage situation comes at a delicate time for Abigail, who is locked into fierce negotiations with her counterpart, French president Vivienne Toussaint (Julie Delpy).

Someone is manipulating the situation and blackmailing Abigail and Vivienne to serve their agenda. The only thing the mastermind wants from Abigail is her immediate resignation. Her refusal to do so threatens to escalate the situation even further and may end up getting her husband killed if she can’t find a way to rescue him.

‘Outlander’ (2014 – Present)

The lives of Jamie Fraser (Sam Heughan) and his wife, Claire (Caitríona Balfe), were already complicated in the first six seasons of Outlander. Claire was sent back in time from World War II, where she fell in love with Jamie in 18th-century Scotland. Season 7, part 1 is now on Netflix, and it brings the American Revolution to the forefront.

Claire’s knowledge of the future can’t keep the Frasers from being caught in the middle of the war, and Jamie’s divided loyalties may get him branded as a traitor. Meanwhile, their daughter, Brianna (Sophie Skelton), and her husband, Roger MacKenzie (Richard Rankin), have returned to their own time in the ’70s. But as dangerous events occur for Jamie and Claire in the past, Roger and Brianna may have to return as well.

‘Death, Inc.’ (2024 – Present)

In Spain, Death Inc. is known as Muertos S.L., and it’s a dark comedy that puts the fun back in funeral. There are some similarities to HBO’s Six Feet Under, including the family-run funeral home business. But this series has its own identity, and it has some quirky characters who wouldn’t be at home in HBO’s show.

This series revolves around Funeraria Torregrosa, the funeral home that recently lost its founder. Dámaso Carrillo (Carlos Areces) is certain that the family is going to let him run the business, which is why he’s shocked when the founder’s elderly widow, Nieves Torralba (Ascen López), assumes control. Dámaso is so angry about being passed over that he actively undermines Nieves, even as a rival funeral home may force them out of business entirely.
