Hulu is having a very strong year among the major streamers, and the first weekend of October is continuing that hot streak.

The new original series, Chad Powers, debuted earlier this week, and it’s already among Hulu’s most popular movies and TV shows.

Watch With Us has been looking forward to that show for a while, but it’s not the only thing you can binge-watch right now.

Our other picks for the week include a new true crime news miniseries as well as an unconventional horror film starring a very familiar face.

‘Chad Powers’ (2025)

Chad Powers | Official Trailer | Hulu

Chad Powers may be Hulu’s answer to Ted Lasso, but the title character of this show isn’t a nice guy at all. In fact, there is no Chad Powers. He’s a fake identity invented by Russ Holliday (Glen Powell), a disgraced former college football quarterback who blew his shot at a professional career. Years later, Russ just can’t let go of his dreams, so he takes inspiration from Mrs. Doubtfire and decides to go back to school.

While pretending to be Chad Powers, Russ has to maintain a fake accent and wear prosthetics on his face. He also has to be very careful about exposing his true identity, because his current activities would be an even bigger scandal than the one that made him a national pariah. Even if Russ can overcome those challenges, he still has to compete on the field against athletes younger and possibly more talented than he is.

‘Death in Apartment 603: What Happened to Ellen Greenberg?’ (2025)

Can a person really commit suicide by stabbing themself 20 times in the back and neck? Although those wounds would suggest homicide rather than suicide, Philadelphia police deemed the death of Ellen Greenberg to be a suicide after her fiancé, Samuel Goldberg, found her body in 2011.

Death in Apartment 603: What Happened to Ellen Greenberg? is a three-part ABC News miniseries that revisits the investigation into Greenberg’s death and her family’s quest to have it labeled as a homicide. There was some disagreement between the police and the medical examiner about the nature of Greenberg’s demise that remains controversial today. This is one news story where there are far more questions than answers.

‘The Man in My Basement’ (2025)

Even late in his career, few actors can out-creep Willem Dafoe. The Man in My Basement is a cerebral horror story starring Dafoe as Anniston Bennet, a wealthy businessman who needs a place to stay for the summer. And he’s willing to throw around an obscene amount of cash to rent and refurbish the basement of Charles Blakely (Corey Hawkins).

It’s not like Charles couldn’t use the money, and Anniston’s arrival came at a very fortuitous time. The problem is that Anniston is even more sinister than he initially appears, and he doesn’t do a lot to hide his true nature. Charles has unwittingly let a monster into his life, and he may pay a steep price for making that mistake.
